Attention: open in a new window. Print

The Mill House Ventures supports both ‘for-profit’ and ‘not-for-profit’ social ventures - enabling them to work side-by-side challenging, collaborating and supporting each other in their mutual aims of creating sustainable, scalable social change.

Its mission is to grow a high-quality pipeline of investible social ventures in the ACT and Region for corporate, foundation and individual social impact investors.

The founding consortium includes SERVICE ONE, the University of Canberra and CBR Innovation Network and is an initiative of the ACT Government.

Participants in Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator programs receive advice and mentoring, an entrepreneurial education and targeted assistance such as introductions to potential partners and customers.

The Mill House GRIST Program Applications Open this Week

The annual flagship Social Enterprise Accelerator Program is seeking applications from 16th May 2022  - 18th June 2022.

Social Entrepreneurs in Canberra and surrounding regions are invited to apply. The program is designed to meet the needs of small to medium social enterprises either in early start-up phase or those currently trading.

Applications are reviewed by a panel of professionals and social impact investors who are looking for the potential for impact – a clear and compelling measurable theory of change – and viability to be market tested, validated and iterated during the program.

The program itself is a 3-month intensive incubation process to rapidly bring minimum viable product ideas to market through facilitated market testing, industry-specific and professional-led masterclasses, collaborative workshops, and one-on-one professional mentoring.

GRIST ventures are supported in developing their Social Enterprise Lean Canvas by their Team and gather the data needed to iterate and accelerate the business.

The program starts early July and runs through to October 22. Applications close 18th June 2022. Apply now.

What is a social enterprise?

Social enterprises are businesses that trade to intentionally tackle social problems and improve the communities in which they operate.

They are organisations that:

  • are driven by a public or community cause, be it social, environmental, cultural or economic
  • derive most of their income from trade, not donations or grants, and
  • use the majority of their profits to work towards their social mission.

Just as SERVICE ONE is a social enterprise, we’re passionate about growing the sector and seeing more like-minded organisations grow and thrive and our support of the Mill House is just one example of this.
