The Mill House Ventures

The Mill House Ventures supports both ‘for-profit’ and ‘not-for-profit’ social ventures - enabling them to work side-by-side challenging, collaborating and supporting each other in their mutual aims of sustainable and scalable social change.

The Mill House Ventures' mission is to grow a high-quality pipeline of investible and scalable social ventures in the ACT and Region for corporate, foundation and individual social impact investors.

The Mill House Ventures founding consortium consists of SERVICE ONE, the University of Canberra and CBR Innovation Network and is an initiative of the ACT Government.

What is a social enterprise?

Social enterprises are businesses that trade to intentionally tackle social problems and improve the communities in which they operate.

They are organisations that:

  • are driven by a public or community cause, be it social, environmental, cultural or economic
  • derive most of their income from trade, not donations or grants, and
  • use the majority of their profits to work towards their social mission.

Just as SERVICE ONE is a social enterprise, we’re passionate about growing the sector and seeing more like-minded organisations grow and thrive and our support of the Mill House is just one example of this.

Accelerating social impact

Intensive forms of entrepreneurial education and mentoring are well-proven to work for traditional technology-enabled start-up companies. The Mill House Ventures applies this same concept to social ventures to add rigour to the business and social impact models of these social enterprises.

About the Mill House programs

The Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator programs give participants advice and mentoring, an entrepreneurial education and targeted assistance such as introductions to potential partners and customers.
